USACE Vehicle Maintenance Facility

Yakima Training Center, Washington

As a part of our USACE IDIQ Contract, AKS was provided design services for a new 4,320 SF Vehicle Maintenance Shop Facility at JBLM Yakima Training Base to support the Panther Medium Mine Protected Vehicles (MMPV). The project began with an on-site programming charrette with key stakeholders to develop the requirements for the non-standard facility type followed by a second on-site charrette to refine the site layout.

With the initial concept information, the Design Team prepared an Unspecified Minor Military Construction, Army (UMMCA) Validation report. The report included concept drawings, project descriptions, and cost estimate.

The maintenance shop has a CMU exterior and standing seam metal roof to match other newer facilities on the base. It houses an office space, maintenance bays with overhead crane, tool room, parts room, storage, restroom, and locker room. Sitework improvements include utilities, storm detention pond, concrete aprons around the facility, fencing, and gates.

The site provides POV parking and various military tactical vehicle parking within a large open area to accommodate the wide turning radius of the Panther vehicles. The project also incorporates the High Performance and Sustainable Buildings Guiding Principles.
